Piano Teacher Videos

Below I have included a series of videos where I read and talk through Mrs. Curwen’s Pianoforte Method.  There are 6 Steps for the children to work through.  Mason used these “Steps” over Forms 1-2 (1st-6th grade).  Before beginning “Step 1”, Mrs. Curwen includes a Preliminary Course for the Beginner.  I have begun there with my videos to help the parents with beginning students.  I hope these first videos give you a sense of how the curriculum works. Eventually we hope to put together more piano lesson videos, but we are working on how to best accomplish that!

Preliminary Piano Course:

Here is Part 1 of the Preliminary Course Introduction.

In the following videos, I will read the intro to you and also elaborate and explain some important ideas.  If you would like to read along or read it yourself you can find the text for Mrs. Curwen’s Pianoforte Method here. I am beginning my reading on Page 32: Part I. The Preliminary Course.  If you have some music training, I also highly suggest you go back and read the Introduction to the entire piano program which is from pages 1-29. You can purchase a reprinted version of Mrs. Curwen’s Pianoforte Method on Amazon, but I am not sure of the quality of printing as I don’t own it. If you want more specific access to the Piano Books Mason was using, please see the Piano Curriculum page.

Part 2 Preliminary Course Introduction

FIRST PRELIMINARY LESSON – Part A: Pitch, Part B: Time, Part C: Touch

( The lesson outline for Lesson 1 can be found in Mrs. Curwen’s Teacher’s Guide – pages 34-38)

I hope to add more content soon. I will either go through more on my own, or have one of my youngest children do these lessons with me as time permits!
